Opened in 1907 as Brunswick Park and renamed Gillon Oval in 1976, this venue has hosted historic sporting milestones, including the VFA’s first Sunday premiership match. The A.R. Glenn Grandstand, now over 100 years old, is a key heritage feature and community hub. Merri-bek City Council sought to preserve its structural integrity while planning future upgrades, ensuring the grandstand remains safe and functional for local clubs and residents.
S+H Engineering undertook a detailed dilapidation inspection of the reinforced concrete structure, identifying defects and deterioration that threatened long-term performance. Recommendations were developed to rectify damage and slow corrosion, safeguarding the grandstand’s heritage fabric.
